The kids first day of school here in Canada was September 24th.
Archer was very nervous to start a new school, but after the first day, the first thing he told me was that he made 3 friends! So proud of him for conquering his fears and having a good first day! He proceeded to talk non-stop for the rest of the walk home about his day at school! First we walked down a huge hill to pick Avie up from middle school and he continued to talk all the way home, such that Avie could not even get a word in! It is so fun to hear Archer excited to tell us all about his day. He said that the entire first recess (15 minutes) one of the kids in his class showed him the recess boundaries. The outdoor space to play in at recess is much bigger than at Fellows in Ames. He was disappointed that he cannot play on the little kid playground during recess because it has his favorite swing, but all the kids in the whole school go out to recess at the same time, so the older kids are not allowed on the smallest playground area and the youngest kids are not allowed on the top playground. There is also a middle playground that any of the kids can play on as well as a huge field with a path around it that is up the hill and through some trees! They also warned us as parents that there are bears in this area, so if a bear is spotted the kids will not be able to go out for recess. Crazy!

Avie also had a great first day! He school of 700 kids grades 6-8 also has lunch all at the same time and for lunch they can go outside where there is a large grass area and a small playground and an outdoor classroom and a forest, which they can go into during lunch recess. They can also choose to stay inside in the multi-purpose room or the media room or a classroom if the teacher is there and play video games or watch youtube on their computers, if they want. Neither Avie or Archer's school serves lunch, so all kids bring their own lunches.
After school, the kids had their first Ninja class. A post with more details and pictures about the ninja class coming soon. So cool to have a Ninja gym so close to where we live! Only a 15 minute drive from our house.
Then we headed out for dinner and dessert to celebrate their first day of school! Sushi and frozen yogurt! Yum!
