How to carry objects when crawling.

Now that Avalon is crawling, she has a bit of a dilemma. Some toys might be in one corner of the room and some other toys might be in another corner. She can easily get from the first corner to the second. But what happens if she wants to play with multiple toys simultaneously that are in opposite corners of the room? See below for the answer.

 

Green monster

We affectionately call this toy the green monster. Avalon seems to have taken a shine to it. Previously she had put the ball in the top a couple of times, but this morning (which happened to be the same day she started crawling) she put the ball in the top about 10 times in a row. This video is of the last 3 times.

My mom mentioned that Avalon has pretty good bound angle pose in this video. If only she knew.

Grandma visits!

 

Camille's mom was in town the last full week of March. Camille took the week off from work and they spent the week hanging out with Avalon, shopping at the huge kids consignment sale for toys and clothes for Avalon, and baby proofing the house for the soon-to-be mobile Avalon (as this was before Avalon started to crawl). Avalon had lots of fun with Grandma and wanted her Grandma to be right there on the floor playing with her (which she usually was). Grandma also bought Avalon a few toys at the consignment sale including a pop-up toy, which is one of Avalon's favorites. You've seen a glimpse of it in the crawling video already and may see it again in an upcoming video. Thanks Grandma for all your help!

And yet another milestone - Crawling

On Saturday, April 4, Avalon began to crawl!! This was very exciting for both Jarad and Camille as we have seen her going through each step getting closer and closer to crawling these past few weeks. She has been able to sit, get to her hands and knees, and then go back to sitting for about a week or two now, but for the first time she actually started to move forward on her hands and knees. She is still somewhat tentative and moves pretty slow, but I'm sure that will change soon enough. Enjoy the video of Avalon crawling for the first time!!

Swimming lessons

 

We started Avalon in swimming lessons on March 31. It's a parent-tot swim class that meets twice a week. Avalon loves the water and is very entertained watching the other kids in class as well. She has fun splashing in the water and her favorite game from the class so far is Blast Off, where we count down from 10 and then throw her up into the air. She is also a big fan of motor boat where we spin around in a circle really fast. As for the actual lessons part, we are trying to show her how to kick in the water, but so far she is not too interested, she much prefers the splashing!!

Uncle Pete visits!

 
March Madness is was upon us and that means Pete comes to town. We enjoy watching as many of the first two rounds of games that we can, a total of 48 games. With that many games there is bound to be a bunch of exciting close games. Since we now live in basketball-central of the country, the first two rounds always has a venue nearby. This year we grabbed tickets for the Greensboro games before the tournament seedings were even in place. It turned out that we got to see UNC play LSU and Duke play Minnesota Texas. Fortunately I did not have to make a decision about who to cheer for in that second game, but it is obvious who Avalon wanted to win!

Another Milestone - Pulling Up

Avalon achieved another milestone this past week. When I put Avalon down for her morning nap on Saturday, April 4, she decided she was not ready for a nap. After about 30 minutes in her crib (where she was making noise the entire time), I started to hear a repetitive banging sound. When I went into her room, she was standing at the railing banging her hand on it (pictured on left). I wasn't too surprised as her teachers at day care said she had pulled up on their little table on Wednesday last week. Anyway, it was exciting to see it at home even though I only saw the end result and not the process. Since then, both Jarad and I have seen her pull up on the little activity table in our living room (pictured below).

My mom reminded me that I had uploaded this video. Good work to her for her internet savviness. This video was taken during Avalon's very first meal, bananas!! We thought she did remarkably well, although we were constantly trying not to laugh.
